Thoughts

Just come across this very sad news... Remembering all the fun times you, Sam, Barry and I had growing up in Tolworth. RIP Nigel

You are the knot in my stomach The lump in my throat The pain in my heart An out of tune note You are a wakeful night That shattered dream A painful bite A crooked seam You are an endless ache A sudden thought A future lost A lesson taught You are a crippling silence An empty heart An act of violence A piercing dart You are snow falling Rain dripping Wind calling Ice ripping You are joy taken Guilty happiness Love forsaken Utter crappiness You are unspoken words Unfinished sentences Flightless birds Grammatical parentheses You are angry tears Reckless blurting Drowning fears Relentless hurting....

He was a complicated dude my dad and to he honest I'm not sure I'll ever completely understand him. I'll always love him though and treasure the memories we made together. Sitting on his lap behind the wheel of the one of the many family Volvo's comes to mind. Attempting to both show off but also not hit things is harder than it looks when you're 10 but luckily dad was there to keep me safe and to keep me on track. He was good at that, was dad. He pushed us kids to succeed, was compassionate when we needed him to be and always kept us heading in the right direction. I regret not spending more time with him because the time we had together was always fun and looking back on it now was also precious too. All too often a day out with dad had resulted in him making a smart arse comment to someone who hadn't even realised they'd just had the micky taken out of them, leaving us all in stitches. It's a talent he's took great care in passing down to all of his children a talent I use myself on a fairly regular basis. I could prattle on forever about the amazing man he was and but I'll keep it brief and finish by saying I wish I could have made it, that covid absolutely sucks and that I love you all and I look forward to seeing you all in May.
